Pieces

by Elena Honcharova

Partially broken, she wanders through forests
Where thickets most dense, and springs are the purest.
She hopes she can find all of her pieces
Attach them all back where wounds are the sorest.

Partially broken, she swears she can see them
In beams of sunlight and mirroring waters.
It seems she can’t find even the smallest.
In the heat of late August, she wanders through forests.

And she cannot find them in the beds of the strangers
In the confessions and the wings of archangels
The pieces are lost and don’t want to be found
She can’t hold back tears and falls to the ground.

Her cries are relentless, her sorrow unyielding
She fears her emotions will open her bleeding
But she’s not alone in her grief in the end
She stands on her feet with the help of a friend.

Accepting the help, inviting heartache
Surrendering pieces and owning mistakes
Opening up and living it through
Will help her find peace and live with the truth.
