Shadow

by Kris Michelle Diesness

The shadows mock me as I walk,
keeping pace with cautious stride.
They stalk my steps and split the light,
then blend together—night, contrived.
They trick the eye and steal my sight,
then fade to nothing in the sun.
Or turning Earth takes shadow’s side,
but in the end, true night has won.
