Tangled

by Brittany Watson

When I close my eyes,
there is no quiet
only black.
Threads stretch in every direction,
A tangled web spun too tight,
too thick,
too endless.
They cling to my skin,
wrap around my wrists,
my throat
silk turned to something cruel.
The more I fight,
the tighter it pulls.
The air thins
Or maybe it’s stolen.
Only the quiet realization,
Settling heavier than the webs themselves
that I am not escaping this.
I am being kept.
And I cannot breathe.
