Colorblind
by Nicole White
First, you see blue
and it sees you.
A spark ignites a flame,
and nothing will ever be the same.
Dreams begin to rise in your head
and that’s when you see red.
The fire burns wild, out of control,
then dies down to embers and glowing coal.
Your body folds beneath the pain,
still, you search for blue through the pouring rain.
The seasons shift, and here comes green
it brings you back to that familiar scene:
me and blue, lost in the blaze,
the smoke had cleared, but we stayed in the haze.
You spend your dark nights chasing blue,
wondering if blue still looks for you, too.
You search for a sign, some sliver, a crack,
but all you manage to find is black.
Blue has faded. It wasn’t made to stay.
It left a scar, a permanent mark.
I closed my eyes,
and my world went dark.
and it sees you.
A spark ignites a flame,
and nothing will ever be the same.
Dreams begin to rise in your head
and that’s when you see red.
The fire burns wild, out of control,
then dies down to embers and glowing coal.
Your body folds beneath the pain,
still, you search for blue through the pouring rain.
The seasons shift, and here comes green
it brings you back to that familiar scene:
me and blue, lost in the blaze,
the smoke had cleared, but we stayed in the haze.
You spend your dark nights chasing blue,
wondering if blue still looks for you, too.
You search for a sign, some sliver, a crack,
but all you manage to find is black.
Blue has faded. It wasn’t made to stay.
It left a scar, a permanent mark.
I closed my eyes,
and my world went dark.
